Message from the CEO

Texas Health Resources lives out its mission to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve in many ways. Our system, with 27 hospital locations and more than 350 access points across the region, cares for more patients than any other provider in North Texas. We continually invest in new technologies, therapies and facilities to advance care for the patients we serve. And each year, we provide more than $800 million in charity care and community benefit to our communities.
Now we are significantly expanding our graduate medical education programs so that the future of that mission is in good hands. The growth of our GME program starts this year as we begin interviewing medical students for general-surgery residency slots at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, one of our largest and busiest hospitals. The growth of residency positions will continue at Texas Heath Fort Worth and beyond, as we create GME teaching programs at additional hospitals within our system, creating 350 residency slots overall.
While these specific programs are new, Texas Health’s commitment to training and education has been woven into our system’s DNA for years. We have been a longtime supporter of academic institutions throughout North Texas, from high school programs for teenagers interested in careers in the medical field to advanced undergraduate and graduate programs at UT Southwestern Medical Center, the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Christian University and the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. In all, Texas Health has agreements with more than 100 academic institutions across the United States. And for more than 40 years, our other large urban hospital, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, has had an internal medicine residency program that is highly respected around the country for the caliber of its faculty, diverse curriculum and clinical research opportunities for residents.
But this new expansion of our GME program, starting with the Texas Health Fort Worth general surgery program, is the beginning of a new day for our system and the region. It is a critical part of our growing investment in the future of medicine in North Texas and our never-ending mission to improve the health of our communities.
Creating these residency programs benefits patients and enhances our culture of excellence by promoting lifelong learning and expanding continuing medical education opportunities for physicians currently on our medical staffs. We deeply value these physicians already caring for patients at Texas Health. Bringing more residents to our campuses complements our robust medical staffs as well as the physicians and advanced practice providers in Texas Health Physicians Group.
We look forward to teaching the next generation of physicians … to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve.
