Thank you for your interest in our residency training programs at Texas Health Fort Worth. We currently offer ACGME-accredited training in General Surgery. The primary goal of our program is to develop residents into highly skilled, thoughtful, competent, and compassionate surgical physicians to expand our community outreach, deliver high-quality, cost-efficient care to those who need it most across the four counties we service in the Fort Worth and Tarrant County area.



Health insurance including major medical, life, personal accident, long-term disability, vision, and dental are provided for the resident and his/her family. Medical malpractice insurance also is provided.

Food Allowance

Residents will be provided food for conferences as needed and will be given monthly on-call food allowance based upon the call services assigned.

Retirement Plan

Residents have the option to participate in the employer-sponsored retirement plan (401k). After one year of service, Texas Health will match your contribution up to 6 percent of your pay as long as you contribute 2 percent or more of your eligible pay to the 401k Plan. The matching contribution from Texas Health is 75 cents for each dollar you contribute, up to 6 percent of eligible pay.

  • The Annals of Surgery

UpToDate is available from any computer on campus.

Board Review Course

In preparation for the surgery board certifying examination, the program will provide graduating residents the opportunity to attend a general surgery board review course.

Professional Meetings

Residents are encouraged to attend professional meetings. Allowances are available at the discretion of the program director. Financial support is available to residents presenting a lecture, abstract, or poster.

Coats and Scrubs

Two monogrammed white coats and scrubs are provided at the initial orientation and one additional monogrammed white coat and set of scrubs will be provided for each subsequent training year to follow.

    Our program participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and applications must be submitted through this platform. The application should include:

    • A personal statement that specifically expresses your desire to be part of the Texas Health Fort Worth General Surgery residency program

  • Interview Selection and Match Process

    Only applications that are considered complete are reviewed by the program director and the application review committee. This review will result in determining who will be invited to interview with our program. You will receive an invitation to interview via Thalamus which will include the interview dates from which to choose from.

    Further details for interviewing candidates will be included following the acceptance to interview.

    At the conclusion of the interview season, our program will rank applicants interviewed and submit the rank order list to the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) by March 4, 2022. The NRMP will then occur at 1:00 pm ET on Friday, March 18, 2022.

  • Does the program sponsor Visas?

    Currently, the program is not sponsoring any Visas.

  • How do I apply to your program?

    Texas Health Fort Worth’s surgery residency program is “all in” on the NRMP Match agreement. As a result, we only select qualified applications through the ERAS application portal and match through the annual NRMP Match process.

  • Can I apply if I am Couples Matching?

    If you are invited to interview with our program and your significant other is interested in one of our programs, please reach out to the contact person for the program via e-mail with your significant other’s name, AAMC ID, and program of interest. We cannot and will not promise interviews to those couples matching but appreciate the additional details that round out a person’s profile.

  • How will interviews be conducted during the COVID pandemic?

    Interviews will be conducted virtually as recommended by all regulating and accrediting bodies in the Graduate Medical Education community. If selected to interview, you will be provided with detailed information regarding virtual platform, scheduling, and interviewers.

  • How can I learn more about the Fort Worth area?
